Are you looking for railway jobs? There are several departmentsin railways, which are classified mainly into 2 broad areas – technical and non-technical services.

Non-technical services include transportation & commercial matters, accounting and finance segment of the Railways, personnel & security of railway properties, include-

  • Indian Railway Accounts Service Group A (IRAS)
  • Indian Railway Traffic Service Group A (IRTS)
  • Railway Board Secretariat Service Group B
  • Indian Railway Protection Force Group A (IRPF)
  • Indian Railway Personnel Service Group A (IRPS)

In the technical services, the employees comprises of engineers in the railways who looks after the maintenance of diesel trains, rolling stock of the railway wagons & goods carriages, and also drivers of engines etc.

There is the Indian Railway Stores Service as well & the Indian Railway Medical Service.
The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) holds open competitive exams for recruitment to all gazette job posts in the railways. All recruitment in the railways is through exams held by Union Public Service Commission.

The applicant should be a graduate from any stream, & between 21 years to 30 years old in order to be eligible. To apply for Technical Services, the applicant shouldhave an engineering degree or a degree equivalent in order to give Combined Engineering Services Examination which is held early July every year.

Recruitment to the railway job posts is for both men and women. The salary grade of all railway officers is fixed by the Indian Government and follows the format of other Civil services.
